A total of £29.4 million is being invested to redevelop the Nottingham Castle site, including the Ducal Palace and Grounds and the sprawling cave systems hidden within the Castle Rock.
The site is now closed for work to start and is expected to re-open in 2020.
The plans for this transformation are both ambitious and sympathetic. One thousand years of history lie ready to be discovered on a site rich in archaeology and human interest. A beacon of power, protest and rebellion throughout the centuries, Nottingham Castle will be revitalised to reflect the wealth of its history, the depth of its collections and the lives of the people of Nottingham.
NOTTINGHAM CASTLE will be revitalised to reflect the wealth of its history, the depth of its collections and the lives of the people of Nottingham. This is one of the most significant heritage regeneration projects in the UK today.
Proposed LANDSCAPE WORKS will improve the setting of the listed buildings, particularly emphasising the medieval features of the site and revealing views up to and around the Ducal Palace.
A new VISITOR CENTRE will welcome people to the Castle, providing ticketing, café and retail.

The REBELLION GALLERY explores the fight for democracy, representation and fairness which runs throughout Nottingham’s history.
The EARLY NOTTINGHAM CRAFT GALLERY will showcase two of the Museum’s most important collections: the medieval alabasters collection and the 17th century salt glaze pottery collection.
The NOTTINGHAM LACE GALLERY is dedicated to the story of Nottingham’s most famous creative industry.
The CREATIVE CASTLE GALLERY will tell the story of the transformation of the derelict Castle into the first municipal art museum outside of London in 1878.
The ART AS INSPIRATION GALLERY showcases the treasures of art and craft held in the Museum’s permanent collection.
The CAVES within the Castle Rock will be interpreted through character led tours of this complex underworld.
The VIRTUAL REALITY CAVES EXPERIENCE will be an additional offer providing a unique and accessible journey through our cave networks.
The charming BREWHOUSE YARD COTTAGES will recreate a living social history of Nottingham.
Work is now underway on site! Check out the time lapse films on our Construction page for a glimpse of the action.
