Will there be a play area?

There will be a new outdoor adventure play area located in the Castle Ditch. This will be made out of natural materials and will be sympathetic to the surrounding landscape.

What will happen to the art collections during the redevelopment?

The collections cover a wide range of Fine and Decorative Art – oil paintings, sculpture, ceramics, glass, jewellery, drawings, costume, textiles  – and span a period from the Middle Ages to the present day. These items are fragile, precious and often of national significance.

It is vitally important that the collections are looked after and this will be achieved by protecting them in a secure and safe storage facility while the building works are taking place.

What are the dates for building work starting and finishing?

Works on the Nottingham Castle Transformation will start on site on 2nd July 2018. Once the works are complete, the Castle is expected to reopen in 2020.

Will there be any access to the Castle site during the building works?

No. Restricted access (there is only one way on and off the site) means that the Castle will have to close to the public so that the building works can be carried out safely.
